OUR CONTRIBUTION
Tanzania is our home. We were born here and we have lived here. Our team are Tanzanians. This is a country we love and respect - and we want to promote sustainable and responsible tourism. In doing so we protect our unique natural heritage and share it with the world.
Wildersun has always been committed to supporting local communities in several ways with a strong emphasis on education. For every client that goes on safari with us, we contribute to a community development project. By choosing to travel with Wildersun you help support a worthy cause.
We believe that in a small way our contribution helps build a stronger community.
Some of the ways in which we contribute:
In Feb 1994 we faced a tragic time when one of our driver guides passed away and his widow and 3 children were suddenly left to fend for themselves. The company stepped in to assist and built a house for them to live in and educated his two younger children. The company has now implemented a saving scheme which caters for such unfortunate circumstances.
EDUCATION
The company has sponsored the education of several individual children who have either lost a parent or both parents and would otherwise be unable to attend school.
DEAF YOUTH
We piloted a program to get a group of 6 deaf youth involved in a woodshop project to enable them earn a living. The same group were taken to Nairobi and fitted with hearing aids sponsored by the company.
TRAINING
Wildersun undertook to sponsor a Deaf youth for training to enable him teach deaf children. The municipal council of Arusha initiated a project to build extra classrooms at a primary school for the deaf children of Arusha. Currently the school has 50 deaf children attending with another 50 on waitlist. While their school was being built the children studied in small rooms or on benches in the open. Wildersun was one of the sponsors of this project.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:
A donation
of school materials from a Wildersun guest.
Should you wish to visit a local school, this can be arranged. You can see first hand the struggle of the teachers who strive to educate in very difficult circumstances. Modest buildings, over crowded classrooms and lack of educational necessities are just some of the challenges that local schools face daily.

MWEKA COLLEGE:
Best Student Of The Year Award:
Mweka is the only college of African wildlife management in Tanzania. Wildersun Safaris is the sponsor of the Best Student award presented annually at the Graduation Ceremony.
SOKOINE UNIVERSITY:
Best Student Of The Year Award
Wildersun sponsors the Best Student of the Year award to the student excelling in Wildlife Management Studies, presented annually at the University's Graduation Ceremony.
THE SCHOOL OF ST.JUDE.
Wildersun is so proud to be associated with Gemma Sisia
and the School of St. Jude which has made a huge contribution in providing the
poorest of the poor children in Tanzania with an exceptional education.
Over the last few years we have witnessed this school grow from a handful of
students to over 1000 students in just 5 short years. New classrooms and
infrastructure are going up daily, so as to allow the students to progress on
to Grade 7 and then into Form 1 in 2009, and eventually all the way to the end
of secondary school. The donations from ordinary people have
allowed the dream of educating underprivileged children become a reality. The
sponsorship of buses has allowed children, who would normally start walking at
4am, get a ride to school, and the sponsorship of teachers has allowed
students to be taught by the best local Tanzanian teachers. Their motto
"Fighting poverty through education" is as inspirational as Gemma's
vision and dedication. We would be delighted to arrange for you to visit
the school while in Arusha and experience it first hand, in the meantime we
urge you to visit this website and be inspired by the incredible story of how
one person is changing lives daily. http://www.schoolofstjude.co.tz

Team Trips
We organize day and overnight trips for our team to visit some of the areas that we promote.
In November 2000 Wildersun Celebrated it's 20th Anniversary with an all inclusive 5 day trip to the exotic Island of Zanzibar for it's entire team.
In December 2004, the company sponsored a safari to Ngorongoro Crater for its team and their entire family ! There was a lot of excitement in the air as our guides got a chance to show their children and spouses how they spend their time away from home. To the children's delight we had Santa join us on the crater floor for lunch distribution of goodies!
In 2006 we held a team convention where all departments came together and in an effort to strengthen bonds by taking part in various team building activities, discussions and presentations. Each team member from the guides to guards, tour officers to accountants, mechanics and managers to messengers, were acknowledged as an integral link in the chain that forms Wildersun and makes it the great company that it is.
