Visiting Manyara / Ngorongoro / Olduvai Gorge / Serengeti

Weekly Departures Available every WEDNESDAY from July - December 2008

Taking you as close to nature as you can get… ..

Day One

Depart Arusha at 9.00am with a packed lunch and drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive.    This park is small - only 330 sq kms in size and more than two-thirds of it is lake.  Its charm lies in the variety of ecosystems and therefore the diversity of wildlife that can exist in such a small area.  Along the lakeshore pelicans perch in the trees.  The open grassland supports herds of buffalo, as well as zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, bushbuck and waterbuck.  In the early afternoon, drive to Ngorongoro Crater  which at 18 kms across & 610 meters deep is the largest unbroken caldera in the world.  Your Camp is perched on the rim of the crater.  Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Wilderness Camp.

 Day Two

After breakfast in the morning, descend into the crater and spend an extended morning tracking animals on the crater floor.  Declared a sanctuary in 1928, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area contains within its borders 30,000 mammals, including the last population of black rhino in northern Tanzania. Varied habitats of forest, swamp, grassland and lake make it an exciting area to explore.   After a morning of adventure, enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic site and then return to  the Camp.  The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.  Dinner and Overnight at Ngorongoro Wilderness Camp.  (Your Crater Permit is valid for 6 hrs this day.)

Day Three

After breakfast drive on to Serengeti National Park, stopping en route to visit Olduvai Gorge, where the Leakey family has excavated fossils, including Homo habilis (handy man), the first tool user who lived 1.75 million years ago. The area has yielded abundant specimens dating back at least two million years.  Stop for a picnic lunch en route.  The Serengeti is the first, largest, and most famous of Tanzania’s national parks.  An estimated three million large animals inhabit it.  Game drive en route to your camp, arriving for dinner and overnight at Serengeti Wilderness Camp.

 Day Four & Five

On morning and afternoon game drives explore the vast Serengeti in depth.  The open woodland and plains are ideal places to observe large predators.  Lions are often sighted, and spotted hyenas even more so.  The wealth and diversity of birds is just as staggering as the mammal population.  Ostriches, secretary birds and bustards wander the plains; vultures and eagles are abundant; and the sunbirds, king fishers and colorful rollers and bee-eaters are well represented.  Return to the camp for lunch, dinner and overnight. Serengeti Wilderness Camp.

Day Six

After breakfast in the morning depart on your last game drive in the Serengeti en route to the Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Arusha departing at 11.00am and arriving by noon.  Met on arrival at the Arusha Airport and transfer to Arusha for lunch after which your safari ends.
